Milos and Sikinos islands.<br \/>\nIt is a small, rocky, barren and arid island, with a steep coastline, rudimentary tourist infrastructure and only one road, linking Ano Meria with Karavostasi \u2013 the port \u2013 and passing through Chora, the capital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The island was known in ancient times as Polykandros and Sidera.<br \/>\nIt is believed to have been inhabited from about 3000 BC by Karians and Phoenicians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">According to mythology, the name Folegandros derives from Folegandros, son of king Minos of Crete, who lived here.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">This demonstrates that were ties between Minoan Crete and Folegandros.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">During the Frankish period it belonged to the Duchy of Naxos and was fortified with a strong castle by the Venetians.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
