Iraklia Island<\/span><\/p>\n

Iraklia is a small island that offers quiet and peaceful holidays.
\nIt is ideal for relaxing, away from traffic and busy town life.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iraklia is the largest of the complex of Small Cyclades islands with an area of 18 square kilometers and a coastline of 30 kimometers.<\/span>
\nThe distance from the port of Naxos is 18 nautical miles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iraklia Island<\/span><\/h3>\n

In the island there are 3 settlements: <\/span><\/p>\n

The port, Agios Georgios and Panagia or Iraklia the capital of the island.
\nAgios Georgios is on the north coast and the capital in the interior.<\/span>
\nIn the island you will find rooms to let, taverns, caf\u00e9 and snack bars.<\/span><\/p>\n

From Pappas Hill you can admire the view of all the islands that are around Iraklia.
\nFrom this point bird-watchers can indulge in their hobby because some rare species of birds can be spotted from here.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Kastro of Livadi are the remains of a castle of Hellenistic period.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is also worth visiting the Cave of Saint John, one of the biggest caves on Cyclades, with a maze of stalactites, stalagmites columns and a rare kind of \u201ccavemilk\u201d.
\nFrom the village of Panagia it takes 40 minutes to walk to the cave.<\/span><\/p>\n

BEACHES<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The island has some beautiful beaches with crystal clear and safe waters.<\/span>
\nThe most known are: Livadi, Agios Georgios, Karvounolakkos.
\nInaccessible beaches can be visited by small boat.<\/span><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t miss to taste the famous Iraklian honey, different types of cheese, fava and of course, fresh fish.<\/span><\/p>\n

TRADITION \u2013 EVENTS<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The most important feasts of the island include:<\/span><\/p>\n

The celebration in memory of Saint George is held outside the homonym church at the village of Agios Georgios.<\/span><\/p>\n

The celebration of the Virgin Mary on 15th August at the village Panagia.<\/span><\/p>\n

On 9th November a great festival is held in memory of Saint Nektarios.<\/span><\/p>\n

HOW TO GET THERE<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

There are ferry boats that depart from Piraeus port to Iraklia 4 times per week, during the summer.<\/span>
\nFrom Naxos to Iraklia the local ferry boat departs every day during the summer.<\/span><\/p>\n
