Geographical & Historical Outline
Halki is knowed through out the world as “The Center of Peace and Friendship”.
It is a mountainous island, to the west of Rhodes and to the south of Tilos.
Halki is one of the smallest islands of Dodecanese barely 28 square kilometers and 34 kilometers of coastline.
It has only one settlement: Halki or Nimborio which is the capital and harbor of the island.
HISTORY
A tradition says that the island took its name from the brass mines that used to exist here.
Another tradition claims that Halki took its name from the amount of shells they found on the island’s beaches.
Strabon calls the island Halkia, a name apparently derived from the copper mines of antiquity.
Its history is closely linked with that of Rhodes.

HOW TO GET THERE
Halki island is connected by ferry boat with Piraeus Port (distance 302 nautical miles), with Rhodes port and with Skala Kamiros (a small port on Rhodes)
On the island there is no public transport, no car hire.
