Tour of Koufonisia Islands
Koufonisia is the ideal place for quiet holidays and relax and one of the most cosmopolitan resorts in Cyclades.
Koufonisia are two small neighbour islands, Kato (Lower) and Pano (Upper) Koufonisi that belongs to the complex of Small East Cyclades.
PANO KOUFONISI
Pano Koufonisi has a small settlement on the south-east side of the island where you will find hotels, rooms to let, restaurants and fish taverns.
The big white windmill on the east side of the port welcomes the visitors.
The settlement of Chora is built in the southwest coast of the island and it is a characteristic example of Cycladic architecture.
There are many places of interest on Koufonisia, such as the central and the back port, the piscatorial shelter, the “carnagio”, the windmills and the churches of Agios Georgios, Agios Nikolaos and Profitis Elias.
The gold sandy beaches with crystal clear waters are part of the magic picture of the island. The most famous beaches are Finikas and Pori.
Fanos beach is located 1,5 kilometers east from the village. It has a fine sandy beach ideal for sea sports.
The beach of Megali Ammos at the port of the island is a great place for a cool swim.
There are no turnpikes in the island, so cars and motorcycles are not necessary.
Distances on Pano Koufonisi can be covered by foot.
There are small boats that make frequent run to the beaches of Koufonisi, Glaronisi and Kato Koufonisi every one hour.

KATO KOUFONISI
Kato Koufonisi is virtually uninhabited, with just a few houses for fishermen who come here in the summer to fish.
The most characteristic sight of the island is the small church of the Virgin Mary.
TRADITION – EVENTS
Saint George is the protector saint of the island.
On 23rd April (or Monday after Easter) on his name day there is a procession of the saint’s icon.
After the end of the procession, a traditional feast takes place in the village’s square.
Local traditional food and wine are offered to the visitors.
A big celebration is also held on the 20th of July in the name of Prophet Elias and on 15th August of Virgin Mary.
