Poros is a romantic and verdant island in the Saronic Gulf, very close to Athens, the ideal travel destination for short or long holidays.
The island keeps its traditional local color but it is well organized for tourism, and visitors will find here a wonderful selection of hotels, rooms, and apartments to let.
There are also excellent taverns and restaurants, coffee shops, bars and club for nightlife.

POROS TOWN

The capital and the port of the island, also called POROS, is the commercial, economical, and cultural center of the island.
It is a small, picturesque town, with two-storey houses with tilde roofs on the sea-front.

Generally speaking, the settlement retains its flavor in many of the steep alleyways, despite the intrusion of tourism.

The archaeological museum contains a good number of objects from the region of ancient Trizina, and is well worth visiting.
Other interesting sites include the historical clock in the square and the old shipyard.

From the harbor there is an enchanting view of the coast of the Peloponnese and Lemonodasos.

The town offers a wide range of hotel units, apartments and rooms to let, various travel agencies, many shops on the waterfront, public services, taverns, coffee shops, bars and an open-air cinema.
More bars and night clubs can be found in the narrow streets of the capital.

About 5 km. north-east of the town are a few remains of the Doric temple of Poseidon, dating from the 6th c. BC.

ASKELI

Some 3 km. north-east of the harbor is ASKELI, a seaside area with large number of pine trees, that spread down to the superb beaches and are reflected in the crystal clear sea.
Here, the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi stands on a green hill with a superb view.
In Askeli you will find hotels and rooms to let of all categories, taverns, shops and bars.

GALATAS

Directly opposite Poros, on the Peloponnesian coast, is the verdant town of GALATAS, to the south-east of which is the famous hill of LEMONODASOS (Lemon Forest), covered with lemon and orange trees and well-supplied with running water.

The forest leads to Plaka and Alikes with sandy beaches facing “Bourtzi”.
Plaka is a very popular beach just 2 kilometers from Galatas.
Alikes is considered the best beach of Galatas. It is ideal for swimming and for water sports.
There are frequent small boats and ferries connecting Galatas with Poros. The short crossing takes 5 minutes. Galatas has a big tourist development with numerous restaurants, taverns, coffee shops and bars.

BEACHES

The island has many beautiful beaches ideal for relaxing.
The most popular of them are:

PERLIA is very close to Poros town. It is a picturesque beach with graphic fish taverns, apartments and rooms to let.

KANALI is located after the little bridge next to Poros beach.
It is a beautiful sandy beach with crystal clear waters.
In the region you will find villas and apartments to let, and excellent fish taverns.

ASKELI is a quiet and long beach with a beach volley court.
It is located a few kilometers on the north east of the island’s port.

MONASTIRI is located on the eastern side of the island, below the hill of the monastery.
It is a nice and quiet beach with crystal waters suitable for scuba diving.
In the area you will find hotel units and graphic taverns.

Just to the north-west of Poros town are MIKRO & MEGALO NEORIO, two fine beaches with clean sands and pine trees, at which there are restaurants, taverns, pensions, hotels, rooms to let etc.
There are also schools of water-ski and wind-surfing.

Very romantic is the LOVE LITTLE PORT where you can enjoy the green and the crystal blue waters.
The beach is surrounded with pine trees and it is a paradise on earth with fine pebbles and sand.

TRADITION – EVENTS

Various festivities are celebrated on Poros.
The most important of them are: the Sailor Week and the Cultural Festival of Poros which take place for a month in July and August with folk dances and music.
