Geographical & Historical Outline
Tilos is a small island, in the southeastern Aegean Sea, situated between Nisyros and Chalki islands with an area of 63 square kilometers and 63 kilometers of coastline.
The little island Antitilos is situated just 2 miles from Tilos.
The terrain of Tilos is – basically – rocky, semi-mountainous and mountainous and Ai-Lias is its highest mountain top (612 m).
In the middle of the island there is the small fertile valley of Eristos that comes down to the beautiful beach of Eristos.
Tilos was inhabited from the Mesolithic period.
About 1600 BC the Mycenaeans came here.
In the 7th c. BC, Tilos joined with the Lindians to found the colony of Gela in Sicily and the island prospered greatly in the 5th – 4th c. BC.
In 1310 the Knights of St. John invaded Tilos.
The Turks capture the island in 1522 till 1922 that Italians take control.
Tilos was incorporated to Greece in 1948.

HOW TO GET THERE
Tilos is connected by ferry boat with Piraeus port (distance 209 nautical miles, 15 – 17 hours), with Rhodes (distance 48 nautical miles) and the islands : Chalki, Kos, Leros, Nisyros, Patmos and Astypalaia.
